2K Recruits Apex Legends Lead to Boost Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Poor Response

Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing unveiling last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a clearer direction.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to address gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Hires

The news follows a comparable step taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the complete text from Ismailer's memo:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just completed your town hall - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a update, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to persist.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game demo was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a more distinct identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the feedback to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our players.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. Following several months of discussions, he starts with us on next week.

His management and background in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having devoted the recent years producing and overseeing some of the most well-known series in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in greeting him soon. We are all eager to persist observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.

David

Title Details and Concept

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch explains. "Challenge the opponents with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that shift every match. Do you safely extract with your collected items? Or go big, risk it all, and trust your team can secure victory? The option is yours."

The game lacks an confirmed debut schedule or platforms, but enthusiasts can expect additional details as creation progresses.
